Capiz all set for CIBA Summer Invitational Basketball League
ROXAS CITY – Capiz Governor Victor Tanco, Sr. will be the guest of honor when the Capiz Intercollegiate Basketball Association (CIBA) Summer Invitational Basketball Tournament (2nd Gov. Victor Tanco, Sr. Cup) kicks off next month in this city.
The newly organized CIBA materialized after a series of consultation-meetings of sports coordinators and basketball coaches of private schools in the city and province of Capiz. Convenors of the association include: Mr. Jonathan Adjijil (FCC Basketball Coach), Mr. Lionel Parce (Sport Coordinator, CPC), Mr. Neil Alvarez (HERCOR Basketball Coach) and Mr. Jawershki Agdalipe (SJCR Basketball Coach).
The convenors elected Mr. Adam Jesus B. Bering, Filamer Christian College (FCC) Sports Coordinator, as chairman of the association.
CIBA aims to: a) establish a basketball development program for students of the tertiary level schools; b) promote sportsmanship and foster harmonious relationship among college student basketball practitioners in Capiz and other provinces; and c) serve as venue through which basketball skills will be enhanced by spearheading continuously the CIBA tournaments.
The initial CIBA-member schools are: Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion (CPC); Filamer Christian College (FCC); HERCOR College (HC) and St. John College of Roxas (SJCR). Soon to be invited as additional member schools are: St. Anthony College-Roxas, Capiz State University (CapSU) Campuses (Dayao and Roxas City) and Technical/Vocational Schools in the City of Roxas. A representative from the provincial government and co-opted members from the tri-media were invited to be members of the association.
The association started the league's first basketball games last November 27, 2007 – January 12, 2008 at the Capiz Gym, this city. The 2nd Governor Victor A. Tanco, Sr. Cup – CIBA Summer Invitational Basketball Tournament is in honor of the governor of Capiz for his full support and official endorsement of CIBA.
The summer league which will start on May 14, 2008 and will culminate on May 28, 2008, will be joined by other schools and universities from Iloilo (Central Philippine University-CPU, Western Institute of Technology-WIT, University of San Agustin-USA and Western Visayas State University-WVSU), and Negros (University of Negros-Recoletos-UNO-R and West Negros University-WNU).
