Boracay police beefed up
Philippine National Police chief Director Avelino Razon has beefed up the police force of Boracay Island to ensure peace and order in the island-resort especially at this time when a lot of tourists flock the island.
Razon who was on the island-resort on Saturday has announced that he will provide additional vehicles, uniforms for the Boracay Special Tourist Police Office (BSTPO), according to Senior Supt. Benigno Durana Jr., Aklan provincial police director.
The new vehicles include four all-terrain vehicles and two multi-cab vans which will be used to patrol the 1,000-hectare island and secure around 17,000 Boracay residents.
Razon has also provided the BSTPO with three sets of uniforms for each member of the police force.
The BSTPO was recently ordered beefed up from 80 to 100 members, according to Durana.
"Our thrust is to improve the efficiency and capacity of our police force to ensure the peace and order situation of the island," Durana said in a telephone interview.
The members of the BSTPO also underwent around nine trainings under a US Department of Justice program to improve the policemen's capability in crime prevention and solving and other responsibilities of a community police force in a world-famous tourist site.
