Fireworks competition puts colorful end to Capiz anniversary fest
ROXAS CITY – A fireworks competition participated in by top fireworks manufacturers in the country put a colorful and exciting exclamation point to the conclusion of the five-day celebration of the 107thfoundation anniversary of the Province of Capiz here April 15.
The contingent from Dumaguete City outshone and out-crackled the ten other contenders to the P100, 000.00 top prize during the competition that saw thousands of Capiceños jampacking the 8-hectare Villareal Stadium here and sounding off in unison the 5-4-3-2-1 countdown before each participant displayed its wares.
First runner-up was the fireworks display from Valenzuela City in Metro Manila, which brought home the prize of P50, 000.00 and second runner-up was the group from Cebu City which pocketed the P30, 000.00 cash prize.
The other participants were given a consolation of P10, 000.00 each.
The fireworks competition, which was held here for the first time, was organized by the provincial government as part of the highlights of the provincial charter day celebration which kicked off April 11. The celebration culminated April 15. It was on this day 107 years ago in 1901 that the province was created by virtue of Act No. 115., which also created the province of Iloilo on April 11.
The top prize of P100, 000.00 was provided by Senator Manuel A. Roxas II. The other cash prizes came from the provincial government.
April 15 also marked the 60thdeath anniversary of the late President Manuel Acuña Roxas, the first president of the Republic of the Philippines. The Memorial Day was graced by Ambassador of the State of Israel to the Philippines Zvi Vapni.
Capiceños of all ages and walks of life filled the grandstands and ballgame courts below of the stadium to witness the fireworks competition which was held evening of April 15 alongside a showcase of local musical groups and contemporary bands.
Ambassador Vapni together with top provincial and city officials joined the Capiceños in witnessing the nighttime spectacle with thousands of others watching from their homes in communities nearby.
