Docs, hospital execs back Guerra, blames politics in oust-moves
Politics at its worst.
Such was the shared sentiment of the West Visayas State University Medical Center (WVSUMC) community primarily doctors and hospital workers in active duty here on the controversy faced by its hospital chief.
The WVSUMC for weeks now is back in the news limelight, a repeat of the scenario in early 2006. Center of the public fray is the still unresolved issues of graft hurled at Dr. Ramon Guerra, WVSUMC chief. Unresolved and pending in Court yet blamed on the ouster as earlier decided by the Board of Regents, the WVSUMC governing body.
A Motion for Reconsideration has since been submitted by Guerra with hundreds of hospital workers and colleagues joining the prayer vigil over the weekend.
In a statement Friday, Dr. Roy Trinidad, Dr. Lilia Delicana and Lulu Magbanua similarly called for sobriety on the issue. This as the trio maintained full support on Guerra's administration while decrying continued attacks on his leadership.
Dr. Delicana is head of the nursing services while Magbanua is the president of the hospital employees association. Dr. Trinidad for his part spoke of his unwavering support to Guerra both as member of the medical staff of the WVSUMC and as alumni of the West Visayas State University (WVSU).
To recall, Guerra's recent plight stemmed from a questioned P135 million equipment-buy that resulted to yet another controversy with fellow doctor.
A P10 million damage suit has since been filed by Guerra.
2006 also saw a signature campaign around the WVSUMC community calling then for the ouster of the highest official of Board of Regents.
The News Today (TNT) gathered from hospital insiders that efforts in support of said petition were bolstered by majority of regular employees, physicians and hospital interns and residents. Same group is now behind the retention of Dr. Guerra.
The issues as then faced by the WVSUMC focused on alleged irregularities in the approved acquisition of hospital equipment.
While no specifics were mentioned then and now, TNT learned that it still is Fourth District Congressman Ferjinel Biron who is tagged as the "political heavyweight" against Guerra.
Two years back as well that the Board of Regents was allegedly promised by the solon of congressional probe.
