Tigum-Aganan rainwater harvesting project wins WB competition
The Rainwater Harvesting project of Tigum-Aganan Watershed Management Board (TAWMB) won first in the category on the theme "Building partnerships for effective local governance," Panibagong Paraan, among 530 entries nationwide.
Panibagong Paraan is a unique bazaar of innovative ideas that provide solutions to the most pressing social and economic concerns of the country.
The Rainwater Harvesting project was among the 99 finalists all over the country selected based on innovativeness, development results, partnership and sustainability.
Jessica Salas of the Kahublagan Sang Panimalay Foundation and chair of the TAWMB and Iloilo Province PENRO Soledad Sucaldito of the Iloilo Watershed Management Council said the project will be receiving funding assistance to scale up demonstration project of Rainwater harvesting for Climate Change.
Rainwater Harvesting is a low-cost technology being pushed by the TAWMB as a response to intermittent situation of water scarcity and lingering poverty in far flung areas in the watershed, hoping to contribute to the Arroyo government's accomplishment of the targets for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) on water and anti-poverty measures.
The project under the Bagong Paraan will get fund support from the World Bank Group, which together with the Local government Academy, worked together to launch this unique competition, for the third time.
TAWMB representatives and those of the other winners, were invited by the Palawan Mayor Edward Hagerdorn to share their project ideas with the development practitioners in his city. (PIA 6/ESS)
