A total of P918,147 checks has been turned-over by the Department of Labor and Employment 6 (DOLE 6) to five municipalities in this region under its Adjustment Measures Program (AMP).
Local chief executives and representatives of the said towns received their respective checks from Presidential Assistant for Western Visayas Raul Banias during the Labor Day celebration. Also present during the turn-over ceremony were DOLE 6 Director Aida Estabillo and Vice Mayor Jed Mabilog.
Of the total P918,147 checks, P226,996 went to the municipality of Badiangan, P217,380 to Leganes and P227,221 to Sta. Barbara, all of Iloilo province; P246,550 to Ivisan Capiz; and P224,420 to New Washington, Aklan.
The DOLE – AMP is a safety net program that provides a package of assistance and other form of intervention as a means of helping workers and companies cope with economic and social disruptions.
The program's implementation is also in line with President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's overall social protection thrust in 2008 and her administration's efforts to reduce poverty.
DOLE 6 Sr. Labor Employment Officer Vidiolo Salvacion said the checks will be used for the training of farmer beneficiaries in the five municipalities on organic fertilizer and vermiculture production.
"The program aims to help target beneficiaries like our farmers in these municipalities who lost their employment or livelihood due to calamity, cope with the difficulties while they are finding means to regain their source of living and livelihood," explained Salvacion. (PIA)
