Gil denies having tampered electrical meter
City Legal Office (CLO) head Atty. Edgar Gil yesterday claimed the house where the alleged tampered electrical meter was found by a group of inspectors from the Panay Electric Company Inc (Peco) is being occupied by a lessee.
Gil, in a very brief answer, denied it was him who is occupying the house where the tampered electrical meter was discovered. He issued no other details on the name of the occupant as he hurriedly left his office. He even covered the lens of photojournalist Arnold Almacen's camera from taking his pictures during the ambush interview.
Gil told Almacen not to get his pictures without his permission. "Indi ka magkuha picture sa akon kon wala ka ka lisensya," he said as he immediately left and took the escalator.
Peco conducted the operation in Gil's house at Burgos Street, Lapaz last April 15, 2008, days after he made a statement before the media on the problems of the city government regarding all illegal electrical connections attached to the city's streetlights, schools, barangay halls and gymnasiums. Gil even announced the appointment of Atty. Milagros Hechanova as the appointed counsel for the Task Force Boltahe.
The Task Force Boltahe asked for a specific counsel to assist them in their complaints against all people who are caught having electrical connections.
The CLO chief is among the three known personalities in the city who were included in the list of Peco's erring consumers. The two others were former City Councilor Rolando Dabao and Fire Official Casiano del Castillo.
Unlike the case of Dabao, Peco did not report Gil and Castillo's case to the police. Peco's operation in Dabao's residence in Landheights 2, Arevalo was recorded in the police blotter last April 30.
According to Mayor Jerry Treñas, Peco's report will not affect the credibility of Gil as well as of the Task Force Boltahe in running against those individuals who have illegal electrical connections or tampered electrical meter.
The mayor said the cases against those apprehended by the Task Force Boltahe are filed immediately before the City Prosecutors Office.
