Iloilo's power situation tackled in today's summit
Three top officials in the country's power industry are here today spearheading the power situation summit among the local stakeholders.
Expected to attend the summit are Department of Energy (DoE) Secretary Angelo Reyes, National Power Corporation (NPC) President Cyril del Callar and National Transmission Corporation (Transco) President Arthur Aguilar. Prior to their trip to Iloilo City, they also visited Bacolod City for a stakeholders meeting to discuss the mitigating measures to address the power situation in Visayas Grid particularly in Cebu, Negros and Panay areas.
The summit aims to drum up interest in the alternative power sources to address the deficiency of power supply in Iloilo and the entire Western Visayas. Some 300 stakeholders are expected to attend today's summit. Businessmen, educators, officials of the city government and barangay officials are expected to also attend the summit.
Locals are also expecting an update from the NPC on their plan to lease 20 generator sets purposely for Iloilo City. Nothing was heard since the information was released on the NPC's plan.
The last information relayed to the media was that NPC is on the process of conducting a bidding for the lease of 20 generator sets. Five of the 20 gensets will be used as standby in case one of the 15 remaining gensets conk out. Each genset has a capacity of 1 megawatt.
The plan to lease 20 gensets came after Davao officials opposed the transfer of Power Barge 104 to Estancia, Iloilo. The deficiency of power in the city would have been partly addressed had the planned transfer materialized.
