Capitol dads eye Ordinance on guidelines for brgy road conversion
Members of the 9th Iloilo Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) meet today for a committee hearing on a proposed Ordinance prescribing guidelines and requirements for barangay road conversion.
Second District Board Member June Mondejar leads today's hearing as chair of the Committee on Infrastructure. The matter was first brought to the SP body's attention in April.
The request stemmed from a municipal Resolution of said town then requesting Governor Niel Tupas for conversion of Poblacion-Kiput Barangay road to a provincial road category. The request was coursed through First District Board Members Richard Garin and Macario Napulan.
Poblacion-Kiput Barangay road network is the only accessible road to Kiput area, the town's agricultural basket. Kiput area is also a favored spot of tourists with the Nadsadjan Falls and Igcabugao Cave found here.
Being the only road accessible then, Igbaras moved that the area should be passable at all times through regular maintenance. Yet due to financial constraint, the town's coffers has since failed to do the job.
To date, there is no adopted Ordinance setting the guidelines and requirements for Barangay road conversion to provincial road category.
Igbaras Resolution No. 2007-034 was pushed by Councilor Romeo Espinosa and got unanimous backing from the town council.
