Free ladderized education program to be made available at WVSU, WVCST
Incoming college freshmen who are interested to avail of a free ladderized education program must visit the office of Vice Mayor Jed Mabilog and Councilor Julienne Baronda.
Mabilog and Baronda were tapped by the office of Senator Allan Peter Cayetano to facilitate the implementation of the free ladderized education project in the city. The ladderized education program aims to help at least 200 poor but deserving students.
According to Mabilog, 100 of the 200 target beneficiaries will come from Iloilo City. They will undergo a screening. Applicant must be a high school graduate with a general average of 80 percent.
They are required to submit documents to include birth certificate, electric bills for three recent months and a barangay certificate. "We are accepting applications now. Since we will only have 100 slots then it's a first come first serve basis," he said.
Mabilog said they will also conduct an ocular inspection of the place where the applicant lives to make sure they are indeed worthy to avail of the ladderized education program. The support will be made available only to students who will enroll in West Visayas State University (WVSU) and the Western Visayas College of Science and Technology (WVCST) here.
The ladderized program at the WVSU will be for agriculture, information technology and nursing courses only while the WVCST still has to make a final list of their available courses. The vice-mayor is specifically encouraging incoming first year college students who have already passed the entrance examinations of the two schools to avail of the program.
