New ideas to be discussed in farmer's forum
Interested farmers who want to get new ideas from scientists and researchers are invited to attend the farmer's forum on Thursday morning at the Corporate Grand Ballroom of the Iloilo Grand Hotel.
Crop Science Society of the Philippines (CSSP) national president Jose Hernandez said all the farmers and interested parties are welcome to attend the farmer's forum.
The farmer's forum is one of the activities in the four-day CSSP scientific conference here in Iloilo City. A half-day discussion is alloted for the farmers in the said day.
Among the resource persons to attend the farmer's forum are Dr. Ponciano Batugal (coconut production); Dr. Elda Esguerra (post-harvest processing); Dr. Rene Rafael Espino (high value crops); Dr. Manuel Gaspar (hybrid rice production); Dr. Hernani Golez (mango production); Dr. Romeo Labios (corn production and nutrient management); Dr. Norvie Manigbas (sugar cane production); Dr. Manuel Palada (vegetable production), Dr. Virgilio Villancio (jathropa) and Dr. Joyce Wendam (policy issues).
Dr. Rolando T. Cruz, chief SRS and program leader of the Favorable Rice Ecosystem, PhilRice will also talk about issues on Low External-In-put Rice Production: Does it translate into increased yield? and Dr. Rene Rafael Espino of the Department of Agriculture talks on GMA(Commercial) High Value Crops Program.
The national convention is participated by some 250 agricultural researchers and school faculty to showcase their researches and be utilized by the farming stakeholders and to redirect these researches to suit the needs of the people in a move attain food security and sufficiency, said Hernandez.
