Improvement of Iloilo East-Capiz Road completed
ROXAS CITY – The improvement of the road network connecting Iloilo and Capiz provinces has already been completed.
The completion of the 39-kilometer Iloilo East Coast-Capiz Road is part of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's Strong Republic Nautical High (SRNH), otherwise known as the Roll-On-Roll-Off (RO-RO) legacy project.
An online news of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), disclosed that the recent accomplishment would lessen travel time and transport costs of products, particularly fishery and farm products to Metro Manila using the RO-RO system.
Transportation Undersecretary Maria Elena Bautista earlier said that that the expansion of the SRNH would focus on the east-west lateral connections so as to realize the President's vision of a seamless transport system.
This would entail networks of roads, bridges and ports that would link the Eastern Nautical Highway to the Western Nautical Highway, she said.
Bautista said that there is also a need to declare as national roads all roads that form part of the SNRH network.
Meanwhile, Information Officer Cirilo Beldia of the DPWH Capiz revealed that the 1st Engineering District here is also having an ongoing improvement of the Capiz Road connecting the Northern Part of Iloilo province.
Earlier, Press Secretary and Presidential Spokesperson Ignacio Bunye pointed out that the RO-RO system has not only reduced the cost of moving goods but also increased regional trade, enhanced tourism and agricultural productivity, growth in investments and development of the countryside as well as poverty reduction.
