Banks, pawnshops urged to install cameras, security alarm system
The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) has urged all banks and pawnshops in the city to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) and security alarm system connected with the nearest police station to deter robberies.
The move came as an offshoot of the gruesome robbery-massacre at Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation in Cabuyao, Laguna Friday last week which killed 10 people.
ICPO Director Sr. Supt. Wesley Barayuga disclosed that there are only a few banks and pawnshos in the city that have the necessary equipment.
CCTV cameras are used to record and monitor the people coming in and out of a certain establishment.
Barayuga said aside from the banks, pawnshops are also prone to robbery. The installation of security alarm system on the bank or pawnshop will ensure the prompt response of the police in case of robberies or other incidents.
Barayuga said they will conduct an inventory to determine and identify the banks equipped with enough security system and those banks that lack security alarm gadgets.
Meanwhile, City Mayor Jerry Treñas assured the safety of banks here during yesterday's Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) meeting. He, however, stressed the importance and effectiveness of installing alarm systems on banks.
There are no records of bank robberies in city since last year, however, Treñas said the police should not be complacent. He also called on bank managers and personnel to be cooperative and do their part in guarding against robbers.
