Treñas recommends new design for city's drainage system
City Mayor Jerry Treñas will recommend to the City Engineers Office (CEO) the redesigning of the city's drainage system into one that has close openings that could prevent the water coming from the Iloilo River from entering the city's drainage system. The new idea popped up after waters from the nearby river at the back of the Iloilo Terminal Market overflowed to streets two weeks ago.
During high tide water penetrate the city's already clogged drainage system flooding portions of the area along the terminal market until the back portion of the Robinsons Place. The high tide and rain water contributed to the flooding.
Treñas said the design would be helpful to the city as the openings of the drainage system could be closed during high tide.
Meanwhile, the CEO has yet to come up with a report on the number of city roads affected by heavy rains recently. Some of the city's roads are in bad shape after heavy rains. Most of the affected roads are overlaid with asphalt.
The CEO is already taking charge and made a check on the city's road status specifically along Diversion Road in Mandurriao. While, the declogging of drainage system in the city is ongoing in preparation for the rainy months, said Treñas.
