City government, NGOs to hold 'Hinun-anon sa Ciudad'
Iloilo City officials will face their constituents in a first ever accountability dialogue to check if elected officials have kept their campaign promises in the 2007 elections.
Non-government organizations and the media, together with the city government of Iloilo, will hold "Hinun-anon sa Cuidad," a dialogue that aims to monitor the performance of politicians against their campaign officials. It will be held on June 5 at 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., at the Department of Education Social Hall in Mabini Street.
Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas and Vice Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog gave their support to Hinun-anon that would make sure that elected officials honor their commitments with their constituents as well as improve their performance in office.
Groups that organized the activity include the Iloilo CODE-NGOs, the University of San Agustin Center for Research and Publications (UCRP), Center for Community Journalism and Development (CCJD) and Iloilo City Hall Press Corps.
"Hinun-anon" is a twin activity of the Candidates Forum held last April 17, 2007, or days before the May 14 elections. It featured candidates for local elective positions who presented their qualification, track record and platform of government before a multi-sectoral panel that earlier crafted a "People's Agenda."
Iloilo City residents can support the Hinun-anon by dropping their questions and comments for their elected officials at drop boxes situated at the following areas: SM City mall, Jaro cathedral, Robinsons Place-City Hall, Sangguniang Panlungsod entrance, Iloilo Terminal Market, Central Philippine University and University of San Agustin.
The questions should not be below the belt but crafted in the spirit of good governance, transparency and accountability for the good of the city.
