Ilonggo writer to launch book of poems
Ilonggo writer Alain Russ Dimzon will launch his collection of Hiligaynon poems with English translations and a note on his philological theory entitled Ang Manununlat Kag Ang Pendulum (the Writer and the Pendulum) under the publishing label Libro Agustino of the University of San Agustin at the Holy Rosary Reflection Center at Molo, Iloilo City on May 29, 2008 at 2 o'clock in the afternoon.
Ang Manununlat Kag Ang Pendulum is Dimzon's output for the 2006 Libro Agustino Competitive Book Writing Grant..
Dimzon was the first fellow in Hiligaynon Poetry of the University of the Philippines National Writers Workshop. He won the Gawad Emmanuel Lacaba (Best New Writer in Hiligaynon) of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts in 2000.
As a poet and songwriter, his other awards came from Home Life Magazine, Komisyon ng Wikang Filipino, Department of Tourism, Clyde Woodward Foundation, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Ilonggo Music Festival, West Visayas State University Christmas Song Competition.
Dimzon's works, poems and songs in Hiligaynon, English and Filipino have been published by the Sunday Inquirer Magazine of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, The Sunday Times of the Manila Times, Philippine Panorama of Manila Bulletin, Philippines Free Press, Philippine Graphic, National Midweek. He has authored and co-authored technical and policy papers, which have passed the screening, accepted, invited, presented or published by the University of Florida, United Nation-Food and Agriculture Organization, University of California Riverside, American Academy of Sciences, Widener University of Pennsylvania, Berlin Conference on the Human Dimensions of Global Environmental Change, Amsterdam Conference on the Human Dimensions of Global Environmental Change, International Society on Equity on Health - Canada, Sustainable Resource Development (SURED) – Germany.
His services have been hired by schools from the barangay to the national level and organizations and entities such as the World Bank Institute, United Nations Development Fund for Women, World Wildlife Fund, Save the Children Foundation, Office of the Philippine President, Canadian Urban Institute.
He was a member of the National Committee for the Literary Arts of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, and Chairperson of the Committee for Literary Arts of the Arts Council of Iloilo and president of Hilway Writers.
A former national commercial table tennis player and Subject Chairman for Creative Writing of the Special Program for the Arts-Iloilo National High School, he currently writes opinion columns on topics he finds significant for the Iloilo-based regional papers including The News Today. He is also engaged in micro-silvi-orchard farming and is rendering voluntary service for the religious publication Candle Light of the St. Elizabeth of Hungary Metropolitan (Jaro) Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Jaro.
