CLO chief to meet City Hall reporters?
After long days of keeping mum, City Legal Office (CLO) head Atty. Edgar Gil will meet today with members of the Iloilo City Hall Press Corps (ICHPC) to settle the matter involving him and PDI correspondent and Daily Headlines photographer Arnold Almacen.
The meeting with Atty. Gil along with the legitimate reporters covering the city hall affairs will be held at the legal office. Mayor Jerry Treñas facilitated the scheduled dialog between Gil and members of the media. Treñas intervened in the row being the immediate superior of Gil. The meeting is also in response to the demand of the ICHPC for Gil to issue a public apology.
The problem between Gil and Almacen emanated from the issue involving the city legal chief in the alleged tampering of electrical meter in his house in Brgy. Burgos, Lapaz. The alleged tampered meter was discovered after a group from the Panay Electric Company (Peco) made an inspection.
After Peco's operation report was made public, city hall reporters went to Gil's office to seek his comment on the matter. Initially, he denied the accusations hurled against him. He claimed the house was then occupied by a boarder.
At the time of the interview, Almacen took photographs of Gil while other members of the media was on the process of interviewing latter. The city legal chief shoved Almacen's camera. While, two radio reporters namely Bert Ladera of Radio Mindanao Network and Rhonson Hofilena of Aksyon Radyo heard him saying “gago” and told him to ask permission whenever he wants to take pictures.
