Gov't releases P467M KALAHI grant in WV
The government has already released P467,068,109.23 for its Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS): Kapangyarihan at Kaunlaran sa Barangay (KKB) projects in Western Visayas.
In the financial updates as of March 2008, the government has already released P467,068,109.23 CIDSS:KKB in Western Visayas. KALAHI projects began in 2003 with the US$100M assistance from World Bank for the 42 poorest provinces in the country covering a total of 183 municipalities and 4,227 barangays. In Western Visayas, the project covers Iloilo, Capiz and Negros Occidental.
The KALAHI projects initiated by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) are implemented in 20 municipalities in the region covering 642 barangays. The recipient municipalities include Concepcion, Ajuy, Barotac Viejo, Calinog, Carles, Jamindan, Janiuay, Lambunao, Lemery, Maasin, San Dionisio, San Rafael and Bingawan, all in the province of Iloilo.
Of the P467,068,109.23 KALAHI grant, the local government's contribution amounted to P198,870,762.62. The KALAHI projects in the region includes roads, health stations, water systems, day care centers, post harvest facilities, bridge, drainage, common service, irrigation, electrification, artificial coral reef, solar charging station, solid waste management facilities among others.
For the phase 1 of the project which only covers the municipality of Concepcion, the government released a KALAHI grant of P22,343,760.85. The town has a counterpart of P9,062,442.64.
In the phase 2 of the project, P370,067,897.64 grant was released to the 10 towns of Iloilo namely Ajuy, Barotac Viejo, Calinog, Carles, Janiuay, Lambunao, Lemery, Maasin, San Dionisio, San Rafael and in Jamindan in the province of Capiz. The towns covered in the phase 2 of the projects have a counterpart of P141,334,759.82.
In the phase 3A of the project which covers two towns in the province of Capiz namely Dumarao and Maayon and Cauayan in Negros Occidental, the released KALAHI grant reached to P55,043,217.31 with a counterpart from recipient towns of P32,577,151.77.
The grant released in the Phase 3B of the project amounted to P13,602,197.23. It covers the town of Tapaz in Capiz and Bingawan in Iloilo. They have a counterpart of P11,694,689.49.
Another P6,011,036.20 KALAHI grant was released in the phase 4 of the project. Phase 4 of the KALAHI projects include the towns of Don Salvador Benedicto, Hinobaan and Moises Padilla, all in Negros Occidental. They have a counterpart of P4,201,718.90.
