Boracay residents protest 30 MVA project
BORACAY ISLAND -- Some 50 Boracay residents are up in arms against the on-going construction of the 30 MVA substation project jointly undertaken by the National Transmission Corporation (TRANSCO) and the Aklan Electric Cooperative (AKELCO).
The project being constructed at Sitio Tambisaan, Brgy. Manoc-Manoc will address the power shortage being experienced by stakeholders and residents of this resort island.
According to Edwin Pelayo, one of the affected residents, the project proponent allegedly has committed some violations.
"Based on their Environment and Compliance Certificate (ECC), their construction site is at the old cemetery of Brgy. Manoc-Manoc but they made the construction in the residential area.
"Also, they are supposed to construct a 100 square meter project, but they are now constructing it on an area of 1,200 square meters," Pelayo said.
The residents also claimed that the project, being a power substation poses risk for tourists since Sitio Tambisaan in Brgy. Manoc Manoc serves as their entry and exit points of during rainy season.
The project site is only few meters away from the access roads. (PNA)
