OWWA honors outstanding OFWs in Western Visayas
Nine overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and one association were given recognition by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) during the recent celebration of the Migrant Workers' Day in Iloilo City.
The Maasin Overseas Contract Workers (OCW) and Beneficiaries Association was named Outstanding Groceria for being religious in amortization payments and for having the highest stock level among the recipients of the project in Western Visayas.
The association received a plaque and one Whirlpool type freezer.
On the other hand, three sea-based OFWs and three land-based OFWs each received a plaque and P10,000 cash prize under the Outstanding Achievement Award.
The sea-based awardees were Capt. Nickson P. Rubinos, Capt. Luis G. Evidente and Capt. Crispulo Celeste while the land-based awardees were Flordeliza T. Decolongon, Editha M. Iguiron and Elma Pagdato.
They were chosen based on their positive advocacies, community undertakings and have spent at least four years abroad.
OWWA also awarded P10,000 to Juvy O. Ladublan, a financially and physically challenged former OFW who was "unsuccessful in her stint abroad."
Ines F. Abella, was also given a P10,000 cash and plaque for being the oldest participant during the recent Migrant Workers' Day celebration.
The annual gathering convened some 5,000 participants composed of OFWs and their families and job seekers who participated in the jobs fair also facilitated by OWWA simultaneous with the event. (PNA)
