Sipalay City acquires sanitary landfill site
Bacolod City -- Sipalay City in Negros Occidental recently finalized the acquisition of a 5.2 hectare site for the construction of a sanitary landfill in Brgy. Cabadiangan.
Sipalay City Mayor Soledad Montilla said the sanitary landfill will not only safeguard the environment in compliance with R.A.9003 or the ecological Solid Waste Management Act of the Philippines but will complement and sustain the city's economic progress, especially in tourism.
Sipalay's Sanguniang Panlungsod authorized the City Mayor to acquire the site.
Initial steps for the landfill construction are already underway.
During Sipalay's environmental week, tree planting activities were held for the proposed buffer zones of the future Eco-Center.
The city's Environmental and Natural Resources Office supported by Stefan Schell, a consultant of the DED German Development Service, is preparing the engineering design and the application for an environmental compliance certificate for the project. (PIA/cad)
