102 city barangays affected by typhoon Frank, six confirmed dead
Officials who play major roles during typhoon occurrences were caught flat-footed when typhoon Frank lashed the city over the city affecting 102 barangays. The district of Jaro was badly hit as several barangays were submerged in water. As of Sunday noon, six people were confirmed dead and 512 houses are totally destroyed by strong winds and flood waters. A still undetermined number of persons are still missing.
In yesterday's report of the City Social Welfare and Development Office, 102 out of the city's 180 barangays are affected with an estimated 26,079 families and 130,395 persons affected. While, 512 houses were either washed out or totally damaged and 849 partially destroyed.
Of the 102 barangays, 20 barangays are in Jaro. The Jaro I has the most number of affected barangays with 15 and Jaro II with 10. However, Barangay Tagbac, which is known as one of the affected barangays, was not included in the report.
The affected barangays in Jaro I are Our Lady of Lourdes, Taytay Zone II, Simon Ledesma, Calubihan, Cuartero, San Vicente, Fajardo, San Pedro, Luna, Montinola, M. H. Del Pilar, Quintin Salas, Balantang, Sambag and Desamparados. There are 2,758 families affected in said areas with 336 totally destroyed houses and 306 partially damaged houses.
While, in Jaro II area, the affected barangays are: Lanit, M.V. Hechanova, Lopez-Jaena, Buntatala, Cubay, Ungka, Buhang, Ma. Christina, San Roque and Democracia. There are 6,090 affected families in the said barangays with 14 houses totally destroyed and 12 partially damaged.
It is in Jaro, mostly in plush subdivisions, where people were trapped and stayed on the roof of their houses to save themselves. The flood waters which came from the mountains washed out properties and caused the death of six persons.
The number of deaths in the city is not contained in the report of the CSWDO. However, as per report of the Regional Disaster Coordinating Council (RDCC) chaired by Chief Supt. Isagani Cuevas the death toll in the city reached six.
The district of Molo has 23 affected barangays. It affected 3,465 families and 17,325 persons. There are also 28 houses that are destroyed and 37 houses are partially damaged.
Lapaz district has 22 affected barangays. It affected 6,398 families and 31,990 persons. The typhoon destroyed 33 houses and partially damaged 274 houses.
The district of Mandurriao has 15 affected barangays with 4,283 affected families and 21,415 affected persons. Ten houses are totally destroyed and 28 houses are partially damaged.
Arevalo has nine affected families with 1,691 families and 8,455 persons affected. There are 29 houses destroyed and 127 are partially damaged. City Proper has eight affected barangays with 1,394 families and 8,455 persons. There are also 29 totally destroyed houses and 127 partially destroyed.
