Classes in city schools suspended
Classes in the elementary and secondary schools in the city are suspended until Tuesday in the aftermath of Typhoon Frank. The cancellation of classes was decided by city school officials because of the typhoon's tremendous effects in the city.
OIC City Superintendent of Schools Febe Cang said there are schools that are used as evacuation centers for families affected by floods while other schools became flooded. Among the schools used as evacuation centers are Baluarte Elementary School and Lapaz Elementary School.
Cang said principals and supervisors are also advised to monitor and report all damages on the school properties. The city schools has also activated its disaster management group to help in the needs of the affected families and monitor properties of the school.
As of Sunday morning, no report has been submitted with regard to the damage brought about by typhoon Frank on the school buildings in the city.
Apart from the public elementary and secondary schools, some private schools also called for cancellation of classes particularly in schools hit by floodwaters.
Meantime, Panay Electric Company (Peco) Vice President Randy Pastolero said they can energize the entire city as soon as they can activate the 20 MVA substation. As of yesterday, Peco restored power in portions of Molo, Arevalo and City Proper
Peco could not immediately energize the districts of Lapaz, Jaro and Mandurriao because of the number of lines that are destroyed by the typhoon. Precautionary measures must be initiated before power should be restored. “It is better to be safe,” said Pastolero.
