Try coal
Economic prices, even though hard to admit, have been rapidly increasing almost every quarter of the year. But sad to say income still remained as it is for a typical average employee. With the insufficient budget it is just enough for one to be able to pay all his bills – from water consumption, daily necessities, transportation, and not to forget our ever increasing and well in demand electric consumption.
As we continue to live everyday, these payments too continue to deflate in a shockingly sooner pace compared to what we thought. And along with the low salary and expensive necessities we are forced to find ways to further be able to sustain our unlimited wants and needs, at the same time we are to be able to afford and still enjoy society's pleasures.
Energy consumption and allocation is just one of the few crises we are continually faced with. With the number of population we have now, our energies aren't enough to sustain us all.
Coal has been and still is used throughout the developed world of fuel transportation, electricity generation, industrial power needs, and household heating. This fossil fuel extracted from the ground or surface mining is the largest single source of electricity consumed world-wide.
Given the fact that the Philippines has so many natural reserves we are asked to utilize these rather than importing from outside undeveloped and co-third world countries that will just elevate and put us into jeopardy because of our never ending debts. Philippines especially in Antique, Panay is a good source of natural resources such as coal. Increasing our use of coal fuel would allow the entire Panay and also the entire state to become more independent from these oil-rich countries in the Middle East .
Furthermore, this increasing use of fossil fuels will entail more employment for mining industry and during the construction, development, and maintenance of not only the future coal plants but also plants of different kinds. This employment would decrease the unemployment rate that is really massive here in the Philippines right now creating more chance for Filipinos to excel in many fields and also some would be uplift from poverty.
With this utilization of domestic reserves we will be able to grow and improve the quality of life. In the future, other sources of energy such as oil and gas will be limited thus coal will become even more important resource. As oil and gas become scarce and prices soar, coal will become the fossil fuel of last resort for many countries and may be even ours.
Admittingly, the current amount of known coal reserves could sustain the entire Panay up until 2014, still through the technology that will be acquired by then people will be able to find ways to the reproduction of the scarce resource. The more it is vital and getting scarce the higher the tendency of the scientists and the people to be driven to find different ways to reproduce these resources in order to satisfy our unending needs. Yes, despite its abundance, this resource will eventually run out and soon be replaced by alternative energy coming from different resources. But, this resource is cheaper compared to the other ones.
Unlike those of the renewable resources such as the solar, hydro, geothermal, biomass, wind, tidal powers, coal is not always present in a given place so as it is now at hand in our area, so why not utilize it along with the other ones? The renewable are good sources too but they don't create as much energy as compared to a coal-fired power plant making it less efficient and more expensive.
The use of coal here doesn't entail the elimination of the other energy sources rather with this new power plant it will further help us acquire more energy that will not only sustain us but also we will be able to profit from it. How can we profit? Its is simple actually that as we are able to acquire extra energies from the different co-existing and future co-existing plants, these optional extras will be exported to the different parts of the archipelago making the archipelago independent from the outside exporters. Moreover, if given the chance to have still bigger amounts of extras these will be enough to be exported out the country making not only good expressions in and from the global market but most especially the profit the entire country could possibly get.
With these enough energy from the future proposed coal-fired power plant together with the Lauaan and Barbaza hydro projects and the existing energy sources, Panay is capable of handling big investors that requires sufficient and continuous power supply. With the entrance of TeleTech call center, more opportunities are given to the Ilonggos and with the preparation to accept Megaworld, Panay should be equipped with all the necessities the investors demand from the province and electric supply is at most. Indeed, with the coming of these investors Panay will surely progress uplifting our economic status.
As we strive to try coal as an alternative, this supply may have imperfections such as the health hazards and environmental causes it may bring about. According to Greenpeace, "Coal is a highly polluting energy source. It is a major contributor to climate change – the greatest threat our world faces today."
To think it over, climate change is truly being experienced all over our planet today and it is fast reaching its peak but we need not blame this to the extensive use of the coal-fired power plants but instead to us – our incapability to utilize coal in a safer way.
Since, 1970, energy from coal has become increasingly clean and technologies now are continually developing innovations to make coal energy even cleaner. Thus, using coal is not only cheap but also towards eco-friendly.
Regarding the climate change, coal may have contributed but we cannot reverse its effects. What has been done had been done. But we as the source of all the technologies and innovations, we could find ways that could slower down the drastic events caused by global warming. This massive change may not be total eradication but still there is a tendency for it to be minimized through simple means of correct allocations and usage of the given energies present in each country.
This is quite simple; we are now faced with the decision to change our lives – a quality of life that is quite ideal for each and everyone and for the entire province. It is a decision that will save not only our plant but the entire race of the Ilonggos. Just try other resources – try coal! /Ripples
