UNICEF assesses Frank's impact on children
ROXAS CITY – Officials from the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) visited Capiz for a typhoon aftermath impact assessment.
According to Capiz Provincial Planning and Development Officer-In-Charge Antonio Asis, a team from UNICEF was here in the province to assess the impact of typhoon Frank on Capiceño children.
Asis, who is the Provincial Coordinator of UNICEF programs in the province here, disclosed that the major focus of the typhoon assessment among children was on water and sanitation, health and nutrition, and education.
He added that the team conducted an occular inspection in some Rural Health Units in the province, particularly those where health equipments and other health facilities were damaged by flood.
The team, he said, visited also some schools where education materials, such as textbooks, were destroyed by flood.
UNICEF has been implementing programs for children in Capiz under the Fifth Country Programme for Children (CPC V) and currently the Sixth Country Programme implementation (CPC 6) in the province.
Among the major components of UNICEF's program are education, health and nutrition, communication, water and sanitation, children in need of special protection, and local policy and institutional development. (PIA/Jemin B. Guillermo)
