Treñas: No politics in distribution of relief goods
City Mayor Jerry Treñas dismissed allegations that the distribution of relief goods to typhoon affected residents in the city is tainted with politics.
Treñas said the distribution of relief goods is being initiated by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and channeled to barangay captains of the typhoon affected barangays.
There is no politicking in the manner of distribution, the mayor said.
Treñas's reaction was in response to the statement made by Vice Mayor Jed Mabilog in a media interview regarding the alleged political intervention by some barangay captains in the handing out of relief goods.
Mabilog, however, refused to identify who among the city officials or barangay captains are involved.
The vice mayor said he received information that there are typhoon victims who are not allies of the barangay captains that failed to receive relief goods.
In a very short reaction, Treñas said the distribution of relief goods is initiated by the CSWDO with the help of the barangay captains. The handing out of goods to the typhoon victims is based on the records provided by the barangay captain and evaluated by the CSWDO workers.
Prior to the media interview with Mabilog, there are already a number of typhoon affected victims in the city particularly in Jaro that complained about the distribution process.
