AFP alerts public on CPP-NPA post-typhoon extort operations
Last stretch relief operations and widened rehabilitation efforts of typhoon-affected Local Government Units (LGUs) continue to get the support of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) here.
With army units still on call for any needed LGU assistance, Captain Lowen Gil Marquez said resources of the AFP remains available for any and all government operations.
On top of such, security in affected areas particularly in far-flung villages is prioritized now by the local AFP hierarchy.
Captain Marquez is the commanding officer of the AFP's 3rd Civil Relations Unit.
Yet more security measures are deemed needed in hinterland barangays, Captain Marquez said, following intelligence reports of post-typhoon operations of communist terrorists.
Targeted areas are southern Iloilo towns, he revealed in a report sent to The News Today (TNT).
"We have monitored in Southern Iloilo the resurgence of post-typhoon operations of communist terrorists in the area. So we want to alert the communities here particularly in hinterland barangays to immediately report these to law enforcement units. We gathered that reported extortion of P100 per barangay official demanded by armed men, P5 per family and a ganta of rice or corn that will supposedly be considered as their "monthly donation". It is clear extortion by the heartless communist terrorists," Captain Marquez decried.
