P10 add-on for taxi fare to begin July 24
Taxi drivers should not be too fast in charging their
passengers the P10 add-on rate, they have to wait until
July 24 before they could implement the fare increase.
Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) regional director Porfirio Clavel reminded all taxi drivers and operators that the imposition of P10 add-on for taxi fare will start on July 24, 2008 after they have secured the stickers.
Clavel said the operators will have to get the sticker in his office for a fee of P100 each. The yellow colored sticker indicates the additional P10 on the amount indicated in the taxi meter charged to the passengers.
LTFRB is expected to release and provide all the taxi cabs with the stickers. The stickers will be posted on the right side of the passenger.
Taxi drivers could be found guilty of overcharging if they will impose the add-on fare without posting the sticker.
Meantime, Association of Taxi Operators in Panay (Atop) president Donna Rose Ratilla assured they will adhere to the policy of the LTFRB that no add-on rate should be imposed pending the release of the stickers to the different taxi operators.
Ratilla owns a fleet of GDR taxi in Iloilo City.
Ratilla said they were already informed that the P10 add-on will be effective after the the LTFRB's decision is published. The decision for the P10 add-on was made on July 9, 2008. It needs 15 days allowance from the time the decision was rendered.
