City receives P2-M financial aid from sister city
Iloilo City got a P2 million share out of the P5 million financial assistance from Quezon City, its sister city. The provinces of Aklan and Capiz also got shares of the financial aid intended for the typhoon victims.
The financial aid, which is in the form of checks, was received by Mayor Jerry Treñas for Iloilo City; Gov. Carlito Marquez for Aklan and Gov. Victor Tanco for Capiz during last Monday's flag ceremony held in front of the Quezon City Hall. Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte himself distributed the checks.
The province of Aklan received P2 million and Capiz P1 million as assistance to the rehabilitation programs of the two local government units.
In Iloilo City, the city government gave emphasis on the relocation of thousands of families living in the danger zones such as riverbanks, creeks and waterways.
The flash flood destroyed major infrastructures, agriculture, schools, hospitals, thousands of houses and livelihood of the people in the entire Panay island. In the city, there were 25 public elementary and high schools affected by flood.
Apart from the financial assistance, the Quezon City Public Library through librarian Emelita Villanueva donated 1,000 volumes of hard bound books to Iloilo City. The books will replace those that were destroyed by flash floods.
