P5-T aid up for families of typhoon casualties
The city government will extend P5,000 cash assistance to families whose kin died when Typhoon Frank hit Iloilo. The typhoon claimed 25 lives mostly coming from the district of Jaro based on the list from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).
CSWDO officer-in-charge Alfredo Villanueva said that the financial assistance for the bereaved families will come from the share from the lotto proceeds that the city receives every month. Villanueva already submitted the list of casualties to the office of Mayor Jerry Treñas.
The CSWDO was in the forefront of the relief operations after flash flood brought about by Typhoon Frank affected a number of barangays in the city.
Meanwhile, Mayor Treñas said the clean up operation in the city will already end this month. The casual workers along with 20 remaining personnel from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) are still deployed in different areas in Iloilo especially in Jaro.
"The recent catastrophe also left numerous families homeless and one of the priorities of the city right now is to begin the development of our relocation site in San Isidro, Jaro so that the people who are temporarily living in the evacuation areas can finally transfer to their new homes," the mayor said.
The city government is still waiting for the notice to start the construction of the housing units in San Isidro. The houses will be donated by the national government, national officials and Gawad Kalinga.
