Newks-Bing tiff didn't spare Pacman's Bacolod visit
The visit of international boxing icon and Bacolod's adopted son Manny Pacquiao in Bacolod City recently has been good for the people who were victims of typhoon Frank because they received food assistance from the boxing star himself.
However, it turned out to be the other way around for Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia and Bacolod City Lone District Cong. Monico Puentevella, who were politically adversarial to each other but are both close friends of the boxing icon.
Leonardia claimed that a reliable source from Pacman's camp told him that Puentevella attempted to stop Pacquiao from coming to Bacolod to give his P1 million relief assistance to the victims of typhoon Frank.
Leonardia said that there's no doubt that the Congressman can resort to such maneuverings because that has always been his tendency.
The mayor said projects that are politically advantageous to him usually meet attempts of sabotage apparently from the Congressman.
The Congressman did everything to spoil the euphoria of Pacquiao's visit to Bacolod, Leonardia said.
It was learned that during Pacquiao's visit flyers with pictures of Pacquiao and Leonardia wearing a bra spread all over the city.
Pacquiao just shook his head when he saw the said flyers.
Leonardia said, "They are just envious of me."
Puentevella, on the other hand, belied Leonardia's accusations saying it has become a habit of the city mayor to resort to story-telling.
He said Pacquiao asked him to join in his visit to Iloilo and Bacolod. But he was not available because of the scheduled hearing on the MV Princess of the Stars, on the same day.
He said that someone is lying again and it is becoming a habit. "When will this cry babies stop disturbing me? I am so busy," he said.
Leonardia was the championship belt-lifter of Manny Pacquaio while Puentevella said he will be with Pacman during the Beijing Olympics where he will serve as the Chef d mission for Philippine Team.
