1 killed, 17 injured in early morning road mishap
BACOLOD CITY – A student died while 17 others were injured when a tanker carrying fuel figured in a multiple-vehicle collision during rush-hour traffic here yesterday.
Carel Torianes, 16, a first year student at the Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod, died at the Riverside Medical Center at about 8 a.m. yesterday, PO3 Roy Badilla, Bacolod City Police Office Traffic Management Unit case investigator, reported.
Seventeen others were injured in the accident when Jeffrey Galleron, 27, lost control of the Fuso tanker he was driving after its brakes failed, while stopping for a red light, at the intersection of Lacson Street and Circumferential Road, in Brgy. Bata, Bacolod, at about 7 a.m. yesterday, police investigation showed.
Brought to RMC were Eduardo Alapre, Jose Rudy Dapat, Judy Regalado, Maita Toriales, Margarita Jiminea, Rusty Sanayan, Mena Cañete, Vladimir Bitanga, Vicente Serdenia, Epifanio Serficio, Mary Ann Chavez, Archie Gasisas, Alron and Cristal Joy both surnamed Alon, and Chiemi Suda.
No medical bulletin was available as of noon yesterday.
Badilla reported that Galleron's tanker with plate No. TMG-407, hit a Pajero, which, in turn, hit four other vehicles.
The tanker, meanwhile, continued running, and smashed into two motorcycles, a van, and a jeepney, driven by Dapat, police reports said.
Most of the injured were on Dapat's vehicle when the collision happened, the BCPO-TMU said.
Galleron, a resident of Stop Valderama, Brgy. Luna Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, surrendered to Police Station 3 after the incident.
