Cuartero village chief asked to resign for immorality
CUARTERO, Capiz – Some 128 residents of Poblacion Ilawod this town have signed a petition letter imploring the resignation of their barangay captain and bookkeeper for immorality and abuse of authority.
In a four-page petition letter addressed to the Sangguniang Bayan of this town, the residents formally requested the resignation of Brgy. Captain Rex Sanchez and Mrs. Quennie Lopez, bookkeeper, because they have lost their constituents' trust and respect.
Complaints against Lopez are: destroying of barangay property because she threw stones to the street lights and broke 3 flourescent lamps; for being a drunkard woman and immoral for having a relationship with Sanchez.
Complaints against Sanchez are: immorality and abuse of authority, because he tolerated the bookkeeper's scandalous behavior and he did not act on the residents' complaints against her. He also shouted at his kagawad member and threw him out of their barangay session. Also the petition said that he created fear and panic to the people by bringing in a group of unidentified men in the barangay.
In a radio interview, Sanchez strongly denied all allegations, however, he admitted he shouted at Belango (kagawad member) as the latter was out of order during the session.
Meanwhile, Lopez also denied the accusations that she destroyed three street lamps and that she is a habitual drunkard. According to her, the petitioners are all liars. However, she admitted that she destroyed one street lamp out of anger for the rumors spreading against her.
Lopez, whose husband is working abroad, also denied having any intimate relationship with Sanchez. She said that the village chief is their family friend ever since. She added that she was merely used as instrument against Sanchez because of family feud and political motives since most of the petitioners are relatives of Sanchez's political enemies.
