'Sparrow Unit' hitman eyed in Arevalo
A known hitman of the New People's Army's "Sparrow Unit" was recently spotted twice in Arevalo District, Iloilo City feared to be on a surveillance mission.
Identified with two aliases -- Melchor and Ricky -- Captain Lowen Gil Marquez confirmed the report to The News Today (TNT). Marquez is the commanding officer of the 3rd Civil Relations Group of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)
"We are validating tips on his possible targets in the area. We believe though that it could be members of the AFP residing there or other law enforcement officers in the area," Captain Marquez added.
Said hitman, the AFP gathered, is the same expert in making improvised landmines utilized by the Southern Terrorist Party Committee here.
Civilian and intelligence tipsters reported seeing the wanted terrorist in the same waiting shade area by the district plaza, seemingly "on the look-out for someone."
Within the plaza's premises and just a few meters away from the subject waiting shade is the Arevalo Police Office.
Captain Marquez said with the disclosure out in public, the AFP is banking on an arrest "hopefully in the soonest time possible."
