Quezon City treasurer donates P2-M for beautification of Panay plaza
Plaza to renamed after donor's late mother
PANAY, Capiz – The treasurer of Quezon City donated P2 million pesos from his personal funds to be used in beautifying the town's public plaza in honor of his mother.
Dr. Victor Bermejo Endriga, who happened to be a native of this town, extended family funds to donate the said amount for the construction of the town plaza which would eventually be named as Florencia Bermejo-Endriga Park.
He said his mother was born in Panay town on February 23, 1898 and died on January 13, 1981.
The project took off yesterday with the Installation of Marker at the town plaza attended by the Dr. Endriga and his family.
Endriga, is the son of the late Secretary of Finance Atty. Mamerto Endriga, Sr. The younger Endriga said that their family likewise donated a swimming pool in Southern Leyte, the birthplace of his father.
Panay Mayor Dante Bermejo, who is a distant relative of Endriga, expressed gratitude to the donor adding that Former Mayor Felipe Barredo, now vice governor, was an instrument to the said project. He added that the construction and beautification of the town's park will be finished by October this year.
Panay town is considered the heritage capital of Capiz province with the Panay Church being home to the biggest bell in the whole Asia. The town was also adjudged as the cleanest and greenest municipality during the regional contest this year.
Barredo and Roxas City Mayor Vicente B. Bermejo, who is a former mayor of Panay and also distant relative of Endriga, attended the ceremonial installation of marker.
Also in attendance were Dr. Endriga's siblings, Atty. Mamerto Endriga, Jr, Mrs. Carmela Endriga-Kintanar, Casiano Endriga and Dr. Raul Endriga.
Vice Mayor Gualberto Bernas III, Sanggunian Bayan members, department heads and brgy officials also attended the occasion.
