Groundbreaking of two skywalk projects slated Aug. 26
ROXAS CITY – Despite strong opposition from City Mayor Vicente Bermejo, First District Representative Antonio Del Rosario is bent on pursuing his two skywalk projects in the city.
An engineer from Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) who requested anonymity told The News Today that the groundbreaking for the two skywalk projects will be held on August 26.
The skywalks will be built in front of Filamer Christian College in Roxas Avenue and in front of President Manuel Roxas Memorial School (PMRS) in Tanque this city.
It was learned that the Office of the City Engineer did not grant building permits for the project as ordered by Mayor Bermejo.
But Del Rosario insisted that Bermejo no longer has jurisdiction over the projects as it will be constructed on national road.
Earlier, Bermejo advised Del Rosario to construct drainage systems which are badly needed in the city instead of the skywalks.
The mayor even issued cease and desist orders against the construction of the skywalks.
Bermejo said the projects are superfluous and unwarranted because these have been identified and financed without prior consultation with the city engineer and planning officer.
Del Rosario claimed that the construction of skywalks would benefit the students of the two schools where it will be placed. He said it will result in smooth flow of traffic while the safety of students and other pedestrians crossing the road will be ensured.
