DPWH defers groundbreaking of skywalk projects
ROXAS CITY – Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 1st Engineering District has deferred the scheduled groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday of the proposed skywalks of Cong. Antonio del Rosario in front of Filamer Christian College and Pres. Manuel Roxas School (PMRS).
Newly installed District Engineer Manuel Bayani R. Bukas said that they postponed the groundbreaking because they will file a reconsideration from the city engineer's office to issue a building permit applied by the DPWH.
Bukas said if the city engineer would still refuse to issue a building permit for the proposed projects, they will elevate it to the DPWH central office.
Bukas said that there is no reason not to implement the projects because it will benefit the general public.
Ealier, City Mayor Bermejo opposed the skywalk projects for being superfluous and unwarranted for they have been identified and financed without prior consultation with the engineer and planning officer.
But Del Rosario claimed that the construction of skywalks would benefit the students of the two schools where it will be placed. He said that it was requested by the schools.
He said it will result in smooth flow of traffic while the safety of students and other pedestrians crossing the road will be ensured.
