Edz Autencio's Playful Piña
The traditional intricate embroidery patterns that are distinct features of this fabric were highlighted by gorgeous matching outfits
Aklan-based popular designer EDZ AUTENCIO 'showcased his piña creations interpreted in innovative ways yet always keeping the essence of his hometown's traditions. His show BISTE MODA PIÑA, one of the featured fashion shows in the week-long celebration of the 1st Indigenous Fashion Market Week at SM City showcased his beautiful and practical creations. Autencio's collections were inspired by Panay's rich culture and textiles. And in support of the craft of piña-weaving, the designer enhanced his competitiveness by using piña mixed with other materials such as silk.
The traditional intricate embroidery patterns that are distinct features of this fabric were highlighted by gorgeous matching outfits worn by the male and female models. His collections were inspired by Aklan's rich culture, mixing piña with other materials such as silk with hues in its natural tone or with natural dyes available in colors other than beige.
His show opened with outfits in hues of natural tone or with natural dyes available in colors other than beige. Among his best looks were his barong creations, in traditional long-sleeve and short-sleeve cuts with overlays studded with crystals. His black structured and 60's-inspired gowns in piña and refined jute were the centerpiece in his collections. Quite amusing but it captured the spirit of elegance in a way that the young generation watching that night just loved.
