New Lucena town chosen as pilot area for JICA project
The Municipality of New Lucena in the third district of Iloilo province has recently been chosen as pilot area for the "Non- Handicapping Environment Project" that will be funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The JICA project is intended to make the municipality accessible and friendly to PWDs through the construction of some amenities in a span of four years.
Mario Abaygar, who is the Anti-Poverty Commission sectoral representative for PWDs in Western Visayas, said in an interview that other endeavors promoting the welfare of PWDs will also be undertaken.
"There will also be conduct of orientation, training and other advocacies," Abaygar contended.
He said that non-government organizations, churches and all other sectors will be involved in this project to ensure its success.
The town of New Lucena has been chosen as pilot area for the JICA project because of the strong support of Mayor Liecel M. Seville to her PWD constituents numbering more than 100 in all. (PNA)
