Reds bomb Globe cell site in Jamindan
ROXAS CITY – Around ten armed men believed to be members of the Communist Party of Philippines-New People's Army (CPP-NPA) bombed the cell site of Globe Telecom last Friday night in Sto. Rosario, some seven kilometers from Jamindan town poblacion.
Camp Peralta, headquarters of the Third Infantry Division Philippine Army, the biggest military camp in the Visayas, is located several kilometers away from the bombed cell site.
Sto. Rosario Brgy. Captain Ronaldo Silverio, who is the caretaker of the cell site, said the incident took place around 9:00 p.m. of August 29.
He said the generator sets and other parts of the cell site were destroyed because of the bombing.
He said, armed asked him and several residents near the cell site to vacate the place before the explosion.
Silverio added there was a demand letter coming from the CPP-NPA asking for P80,000 revolutionary tax but the Globe Telecom merely ignored it.
Capt. Lowen Gil Marquez of the Phil. Army said the bombing was perpetrated by CPP-NPA Central Front Committee led by Ka Juvy Benedicto Alyas Bongbong.
He added that the CPP-NPA also destroyed five Globe cell sites in the Bicol region.
Several years ago, the CPP-NPA bombed a cell site in Barangay Bitoon, Cuartero, Capiz also because its owner failed to pay revolutionary taxes to them.
