NFA men seize sacks of mixed rice
Some 100 sacks of rice estimated to value at P100,000 was recently confiscated in a warehouse in the northern part of Iloilo. It was learned that the regular milled rice was mixed with National Food Authority (NFA) rice. The NFA is currently conducting an investigation. The seized sacks of rice are currently placed under the custody of the town's police station.
NFA assistant provincial manager Jovan Villa said the agency is still investigating the recent confiscation with Larry Perez as head.
He refused to give other details about the confiscation and the personalities involved in the mixing of NFA rice with regular milled rice.
The mixed NFA and regular milled rice is then repacked to command a higher price in the market. The buying price for each bag of NFA rice is only P850. It is retailed at most for P912.50.
The agency will slap appropriate sanctions to any NFA rice dealers who initiated the mixing. The NFA actions against erring rice dealers will depend on the result and how the fast is the investigation.
The recent confiscation confirms previous reports that some unscrupulous rice dealers mixed the NFA rice with regular rice and sold in the market at a higher price.
