PNP 6: City is still safe
The Philippine National Police (PNP) is in full control of the peace and order in this city, saying that the recent criminal incidents were isolated cases.
Police Regional Office 6 (PRO 6) director, Chief Supt. Isagani Cuevas issued the assurance after he was informed that several business groups are already jittery over what's happening here for several weeks now.
Cuevas said the PNP is there to maintain peace and order through the close cooperation of all sectors.
For his part, Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) officer-in-charge, Senior Supt. Bartolome Tobias met with the board of directors of the Iloilo Economic Development Foundation (ILEDF), an umbrella organization of all the business organizations in Iloilo on Saturday.
Lea Lara, executive director of the Iloilo Business Club (IBC), said Tobias briefed them about the peace and order situation in the city as he also appealed for support from the business sector.
"Peace and order situation really matters when it comes to investments," she said. "He was very candid in saying that the crime solution efficiency in the city is 70 percent."
The ILEDF has requested Tobias to furnish them of his assessment on the crime situation in the city and the support the PNP needs.
"Ever since the business sector has always been supportive of the PNP," she said.
Several high profiled cases have occurred here since Tobias assumed as ICPO officer-in-charge last month.
These included the killing of American national Daniel Chabra, ambush of Iloilo provincial fire marshal Supt. Casiano del Castillo, the death of Adelina Palma-Bermejo who is the aunt of Senator Miriam Santiago, and grenade throwing, among others. (PNA)
