Bacolod City asks DENR assistance to open a sanitary landfill
BACOLOD CITY -- True to its stand on complying with environmental laws, the Bacolod City government has requested technical assistance from the DENR here on the procedures the city should go through to create a sanitary landfill.
This developed as the city government has submitted to the office the safe closure and rehabilitation plan for the existing dumpsite at Brgy. Felisa.
The DENR is requiring the submission of the safe closure plan before it can officially close the dumpsite and for the city to legally acquire the right to operate and open a sanitary landfill.
The entire process is in compliance with the R.A. 9003 the Solid Waste Management Act, Chairman of the Committee on Environment and Clean and Green Technical Working Group Greg Gasataya, said.
President Gloria M. Arroyo has given marching orders to the DENR to enforce all pertinent environmental laws to ensure a safe community for every Filipinos to enjoy. (PIA-LOL)
