Treñas renews call for clean-up of barangays
City Mayor Jerry Treñas has renewed the call for a massive clean-up in barangays following the report of the City Health Office (CHO) that 16 Dengue cases were recently recorded in Barangay Don Esteban, Lapuz, La Paz district. Fortunately, no death was reported.
No additional details in as far as gender and age level of the victims was released by the chief executive. Though he already ordered fogging operation in the said barangay to terminate all the Dengue-carrying mosquitoes.
Treñas also directed the Office of the Public Services headed by Engr. Raul Gallo and City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) head Noel Hechanova to coordinate with the barangay officials for the conduct of clean-up operations.
The clean up was ordered by the chief executive based on the recommendation made by Dr. Mae D. Delmo, CHO's, Medical Officer V.
Dr. Delmo's letter to the mayor dated September 2, 2008 recommended to cut down the grasses and trim down other plants in the barangay and destroy plastic bottles and other containers which may hold water. The team had conducted a lecture among the the residents regarding control of dengue and environmental management with the presence of Don Esteban Barangay Capt. Reynaldo Brito.
The same report said the medical team also investigated a nearby school with a suspicion that the dengue carrying mosquitoes are present in the school compound. The report did not identify the school.
Barangay officials have to give emphasis on their campaign against dengue fever. He stressed the importance of having a clean surroundings. Flyers and other reading materials regarding the acute viral disease were already distributed in the different schools and churches to prevent the occurrence of more dengue cases in the city, said Treñas.
