Treñas seeks SP nod on P35M housing project
City Mayor Jerry Treñas will seek the approval of the Sangguniang Panlungsod before signing the memorandum of agreement (MOA) for the implementation of the P35 million housing project funded by Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC).
The P35 million was released by the HUDCC through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). The MOA for the project implementation will be entered between the city government, DSWD and the Habitat for Humanity Philippines (HFHP) Foundation Inc. The Habitat for Humanity will construct the housing units using an interlocking blocks.
The fund is allocated for the construction of housing units for the families whose houses were destroyed and carried by waters when Typhoon Frank hit Iloilo on June 21,2008. Hundreds of houses were destroyed, properties were damaged and several people died in the flash floods.
The release of P35 million was the contribution of Vice President Noli de Castro. He visited the city after the typhoon. The vice president was so moved with the situation of families who lives in danger zones such as waterways and creeks.
The housing units which will be constructed at the 16.2 hectares lot in Barangay San Isidro, Jaro. The P35 million fund from the national government is apart from the contribution made by Cong. Raul Gonzalez Jr. Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri also pledged to donate P5 million for the construction of 50 housing units. Gonzalez donated P5 million from his PDAF for the construction of 60 row houses.
