War bombs found in Jaro
Coincidence? Twist of fate?
Call it any other name but yesterday was to be the day of all days for kids at work and play to unearth two vintage bombs in separate occasions in Iloilo City.
First discovery came at about 11 a.m. when Jaro Police were alerted by barangay officials about a vintage bomb found by two boys along the Jaro River.
The boys – Michael Papa and Michael Amihan – were off looking for scrap materials to sell when they saw the bomb. The two Michaels "sort of knew" what it was, they later told authorities, and so slowly dug up their find and dragged it to safety. Barangay officials in Modern Homes Subdivision then waited for bomb experts.
In an interview over Bombo Radyo, Police Officer 3 Rapahel Managuit said the bomb if mishandled can still explode. Managuit is from the Explosives and Ordnance Division (EOD) of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO).
A few minutes after radio reports died down on the two Michael's discovery, yet another breaking news. This time still in Jaro District and still yet another discovery of another young boy Ronnie Baldoque of Zone 4, Balabago, Jaro.
An even more grim discovery because the pin was already missing on what turned out was a mortar bomb.
Both bombs were secured by the EOD. The children meantime went ahead in search for more scrap materials, undaunted and unimpressed with the day's find.
