Right project for San Joaquin, wrong 'governor' to ask for help
Return to sender.
From the usual action of "Noted" that the 9th Iloilo Sanggunian Panlalawigan (SP) would take on communications coming from a top Capitol aide, "Return to sender" was added yesterday.
This after an endorsement was received by the SP body and presented in yesterday's session. Dated September 1, 2008, signatory was "OIC-Governor Manuel Mejorada."
In the words of Vice Governor Rolex Suplico as presiding chairman, the endorsement showed "not the proper signature… wrong OIC governor... he is from the Province of Capiz." Suplico pointed out a Supreme Court ruling that upheld an earlier Court decision stating that Mejorada is not a resident of Iloilo province.
It was to be the third item under Provincial Matters for "First Reading and Referral." A recess was then called as questions were raised yet quickly settled. Third District Board Member Arthur Defensor Jr. who was then acting as Majority Floor Leader led to the "Return to Sender" motion.
Mejorada's letter was relative to Resolution No. 2008-17 of Barangay Tiolas, San Joaquin, Iloilo. The Resolution was for a request of realignment of P50,000 intended for construction of basketball court to construction of concrete fencing surrounding the area of the proposed plaza of said barangay.
