Negros celebrates 63rd Liberation Day
As a way of paying tribute to the heroism of the World War II veterans, the Province of Negros Occidental commemorated its 63rd Liberation Day Anniversary yesterday at the Provincial Park and Lagoon. The tribute started with a wreath-laying ceremony at the monument of the World War II heroes followed by a commemorative program at the Negros Occidental Multi-Purpose Activity Center (NOMPAC).
In his speech, Gov. Isidro P. Zayco accentuated the significance of this event as he recalled the sacrifices and hardships that the veterans encountered to win the battle against the Japanese Imperial forces in order to free the Negros Island from their occupation.
He also assured the veterans that he would always cherish and preserve the hard-earned freedom by always working for the cause and welfare of the Negrenses.
The Provincial Government also turned over a check worth P300,000 of medical assistance to the local chapter of the Veterans Federation of the Philippines (VFP).
Present during the event are Vice Gov. Emilio L. Yulo III, Board Members Nehemias G. dela Cruz, Renato Y. Gustilo, Mae C. Javellana, Enrique Miguel L. Lacson, Patrick S. Lacson, PNP Provincial Director Rosendo Franco, Deputy Commander of the 303rd IB Col. Francisco Patrimonio and various VFP District Commanders. Capitol News
