Bugasong Patadyong Weavers get P100T fund from DOLE
SAN JOSE, Antique – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) through Laura Villarico, Provincial Director released the amount of P100,000.00 for Bagtason Loom Weaver Association (BLWA) popularly known as Patadyong Weavers in Bugasong, Antique.
A Memorandum of Agreement was signed jointly by the Municipal Government of Bugasong and DOLE for the said financial grant intended for the purchase of loom weaving equipment and raw materials like thread and silk. Mayor Bernard Pesayco and Vice Mayor Victor Condez are all out in their support to the project and have facilitated the released of P40,000.00 as counterpart.
The financial assistance according to the loom weavers will help them increase the volume of production to meet the large scale demand of their customers especially during trade missions and expositions supported by the non-government organizations and Department of Trade and Industry.
Patadyong Weaving is the One-Town-One Product- (OTOP) of Bugasong and its the only one of its kind in the region. You can also find in Bagtason assortment of attractive loom-woven native cloth called Patadyong.
BLWA led by their President Mario Manzano expressed gratitude to the government for providing them support which will not only help Patadyong industry grow but also provide livelihood/employment to families who mainly depend their income from weaving and promote the town as culture-tourism destination in the province.
