Westbridge School senior is boy mayor
A senior from Westbridge School, Inc. (WSI) is this year's boy mayor as the Rotary Club of Iloilo City (R.I. District 3850) holds its annual Boys' and Girls' Week celebration from September 22nd– 26th. The celebration will begin with an oath-taking rite for designated youth officials during the city's flag ceremony on Monday, September 22nd.
Paolo Martin Taruc, a graduating student, was among the 43 young boys and girls selected by the Rotary to assume ceremonial positions in the city government starting Monday.
The yearly activity is a joint collaboration between Rotary and the city government where students from various public and private secondary schools vie for different positions through essay-writing and panel interview.
Aside from Taruc, other officials include Clarise Opinion from Assumption-Iloilo (AI) as the girl vice mayor, while the twelve boy and girl councilors are Glyzelle Ybiernas from Ateneo de Iloilo (ADI), Jeff Lorenz Booc from Philippine Science High School (PSHS), Eunice Contreras from AI, Jonathan Tagamolila, Nina Juan Loa and Gary Regalado from ADI, Ric Libo-on from University of San Agustin (USA), Andre Faculin Colegio del Sagrado Corazon de Jesus, Demiangelo Toledo from USA, Kimberly Demegillo from UP High School-Iloilo, Jahn Valderrama from WSI, Albert Java from Central Philippine University, Irene Lim from PSHS and Marja Angela Yasa from USA.
Other boys and girls were also appointed as department heads and city judges for the one week celebration.
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, who was also informed that his junior high school son Gerry will be serving as the general services officer next week, congratulated all the students and said that this is a great opportunity for everyone to witness first hand how public governance works which could come in handy in their future lives.
"Student leaders should cherish experiences like these for it gives them added knowledge and new friendships that could last a lifetime," the mayor said.
Rotary president Jose Totengco said the event will be capped by a Culmination Night to be attended by the young officials and their counterparts on September 27that Hotel del Rio. (PIO)
